Import Dust Collector Filters; Tough decisions in tough times
I had a sample sent to me of a dust collector filter made in China last week. After inspecting the quality of the filter, I found the quality to be on the lower end and by our current American standards. But, the big question is would the typical end user know the difference? Probably not, and the pricing is cheep...cheep.
I spoke with some of the largest U.S. filter manufactures and the pricing of the knock off filter is close to what he pays for materials.
Of course a Chinese manufacture does not have to worry about governmental agencies such as EPA, DNR, OSHA, environmental impact, health care and other benefits. Yes they will be cheeper....
Do we all run to Mexico and China to manufacture our goods? Most of the biggies have already abandoned ship. I was really disappointed last month to find out John Deere will be manufactured in Mexico,as well as Hershey candy which has been in manufactured in Mexico for a year now. I can not imagine the impact these decisions will have over the next 10 years to the American worker and even the U.S. taxable incomes to support our government.
Wal-Mart and other huge retailers are searching for cheeper and cheeper alternatives to their product that the American consumer demands. What do you think? What will you do?
