I received a newsletter today about remanufacturing. It called this the next big boom to the U.S. Interesting huh? Remanufacturing was taking a used or discarded product and fixing, cleaning, or rebuilding it so it can be used again. The only thing that came to my mind when I heard the word "remanufactured" was auto parts out of a junk yard. After thinking for a while I guess There are tons of products , even electronics that may be remanufactured. The only problem I see with using this new buzz word is that there is no regulation or definition of what a remanufactured "wig wag" is or what was done to it. Was it disassembled and rebuilt? was it tested? Is there quality control? or do we take a used product paint it, and off it goes. Consumers could have a bad experience with one manufacture verses another. Interesting thought......If the original product was cleaned for reuse, quality checked, and repaired (gasket, torn pleat) could our filters be considered a remanufactured product?
